The Tamarind Canoe Safari

No previous canoeing experience is necessary but guests need to be reasonably fit and healthy.

This is a semi-participation safari, which means you will be required to help set up your own tent each evening, as the camps are not pre built.

Group Size: Minimum 2 people, maximum 8 people   

Min. age: 14 years

Included in the price: Road transfer, Harare to Kariba. 1 Night’s accommodation at Caribbea Bay Resort, incl. breakfast. Roundtrip transfers, Kariba to Mana Pools. 3 Nights’ accommodation, incl. all meals, mineral water, cordials, tea and coffee and wine with dinner. Use of camping and canoe equipment, game activities and guide fees. 

Not included in the price:
Additional drinks, visa fees, optional activities, travel insurance, items of a personal nature such as souvenirs etc., national park fees unless stipulated.

Departures 2014: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday subject to availability

Day 1: Harare to Kariba On arrival at Harare International Airport, you will be met and transferred to Kariba where you will spend the first night at your accommodation located on the shore of Lake Kariba.

Accommodation: Caribbea Bay Resort or similar (deluxe room with en-suite bathroom)

Day 2: Kariba to Chirundu                       
In the morning, you will be collected from Kariba and transferred in open 4x4 vehicles to Chirundu. Following a safety talk and a short paddling demonstration, we will board our canoes and set off on our journey. Packed lunches will be provided to take up river.  After some tranquil paddling, camp will be set up on an island named Kakomarara. [BLD]

Accommodation: Kakomarara Island or similar (two man dome tent)

Day 3 & 4: Mana Pools National Park       
For the next two days, we will wake up at sunrise for tea, coffee and biscuits before paddling for a couple of hours to the breakfast stop. Canoeing will resume until midday and a well-earned lunch and siesta will follow. After our break, we board our canoes again and follow the river until approximately 17h00, hopefully spotting some game along the way. [BLD]

Overnight Day 3: Lone Acacia Island or similar (two man dome tent)

Overnight Day 4: Trichelia Island or similar (two man dome tent)

Day 5: Departure
After breakfast, camp is broken down and you will set off in your canoes back to Mana Pools. On arrival the canoes and equipment are loaded on to the vehicles for your return trip to Kariba. [B]
