Introduction

Chizarira National Park is located in the north of the country and is the third largest park in Zimbabwe, but remains one of the least known or visited, making it a true wilderness area. Populations of elephant, buffalo, lion and leopard can be found along with various other game inside the park. Chizarira’s scenery is majestic as most of the park is a plateau set on the Zambezi Escarpment overlooking Lake Kariba. Chizarira is a birders paradise; close to 400 species including Angola Pita, Trogans, and Livingstone’s Flycatcher habituate the grassy valleys and riverine gorges. The appeal of Chizarira lies in its remoteness and the opportunity to experience Africa in its original form.
